Alaska Airlines has Wi-Fi on almost every plane. It is free if you join Atmos Rewards and the plane has Starlink. Joining costs nothing. You do not need a T-Mobile plan. T-Mobile pays for the free Wi-Fi. You only need the club number.
Join on the ground. The seat is a poor place to make a new password. Some Alaska planes are fast Starlink. Others still charge $8. If you are flying to a cruise, the ship starts a new bill when you land. The plane Wi-Fi stops at the door.

Atmos is the new club name. Mileage Plan is gone. HawaiianMiles is gone. One club now, for Alaska and Hawaiian. It is free. You do not need status. You do not need a card. You can join from the seat. I still join on the ground. It is calmer.
Starlink is not on every plane yet. All Horizon regional jets have it. Hawaiian’s A330s and A321neos have it. Some 737 MAX 8s have it. Many Seattle 737s still use the old $8 Wi-Fi. Do not guess from a news story. Look at the Wi-Fi page after you take off. If it asks for a card, it is not Starlink.
Children under eighteen can use the booking. I still make them their own Atmos number at home. It is easier than a fussy form in the air.
Two prices if you joined. Zero on Starlink. Eight dollars on the old planes. If you skip the club, they still sell that $8 pass. There is no monthly pass. There is no yearly pass. A stop in the middle is a second $8 on the old planes.

What the week actually costs
The plane is the cheap part. The ship is the part that hurts. That is why the last row is on this page.
T-Mobile pays for the free Starlink Wi-Fi. You do not need their phone plan. You need Atmos.
If you do have T-Mobile, and you got an older plane, the old T-Mobile perk can still help. That is the only time the brand on your SIM matters. On Starlink, Atmos is enough.
I have watched people sit there because they thought they needed a T-Mobile login. They needed an Atmos number. Join. Then stop thinking about it.
The Wi-Fi name is AlaskaWiFi.com. There is no password. The page is the same address. Type it if the page does not open by itself.
Turn off VPN. Turn off iCloud Private Relay. Use a real browser, not the one inside Instagram. The Wi-Fi page will tell you if this plane is Starlink. If it offers free Atmos Starlink, you won. If it offers free texts and an $8 pass, you are on the old Wi-Fi.
Look in the Alaska app. Look in the welcome email. You can reset the password from the seat. What does not work is making a new account every flight. Then the miles never land.
Join on the ground. Save the number in your phone. The gate agent cannot look it up for Wi-Fi. The flight attendant cannot either.
Starlink feels like home internet. WhatsApp is easy. A film often plays. A work call is worth a try. I still would not bet a big meeting on it.
The old $8 Wi-Fi is fine for mail and a page. It is slow when the plane is full. The very old 737-700 Wi-Fi is worse. Mail. A page. Not a film trailer. If your boarding pass says a 700, download a show at the gate.

Alaska still flies the old 737-700s. Those planes have weak Wi-Fi. Free texts. No films. People read a Starlink story and then sit in seat 12C watching a spinner. Read the Wi-Fi page. If it never says Atmos Starlink, you are not on Starlink.
Funny thing. The small Horizon jet to a small city is often the sure Starlink plane. The big Seattle 737 is still a lucky dip. I treat every 737 as paid until the page says free.
They want every plane done by the end of 2027. Horizon is done. Hawaiian’s big planes are done. The Dreamliners should get it in 2026. Until then, join Atmos anyway. When you get a Starlink plane, you already have the number. When you do not, $8 is still $8, and T-Mobile might cover it.
Try the boring fixes first. They work more often than asking the crew to restart the system.
In Japan, nothing works at the gate. It starts in the air. It dies on the way down. Do not fight it at Haneda. Same if they are de-icing in Anchorage. Ice on the plane can block the Wi-Fi. Your settings will not melt it.
Atmos on Starlink is your account, not a coupon. Seattle to Portland to San Diego can be free on both flights if both planes have Starlink. Pay $8 on an old plane and the next flight is a new $8. The account is the only part you control.
Hawaiian’s Starlink planes to Honolulu work with Atmos. The short hop to another island often has no Wi-Fi at all. Download before you leave Honolulu.
Mexico and Costa Rica can work on the better old Wi-Fi. The 737-700s often fail. Starlink does not care about the coast. If you are flying to a Mexican cruise, the plane is the easy part. The ship is the bill.
Far north, the old Wi-Fi can die. If you need maps, save them offline.
Alaska still has films on the plane, in a library on the Wi-Fi page. That is not Netflix. That is not WhatsApp. You can watch two episodes and still have no mail. Use the library when you get an old 737. Save the $8. The film is already on the plane. Your email is not.
Alaska copied the free-if-you-join trick. They have not put Starlink on every plane yet. JetBlue still gives it to everyone. Southwest is the same lucky dip with a different club name. American is free on most planes and still a year from Starlink. Frontier has no Wi-Fi at all.

I have done that walk. The plane Wi-Fi stops at the door. The ship starts a new bill. Twenty to forty-nine dollars a day, for each phone, and it dies again when you step onto the pier.
